G. Victor Hallman is a Lecturer in Financial and Estate Planning in the Insurance and Risk Management Department of the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, as well as a member of the Pennsylvania Bar.

Jerry S. Rosenbloom is the Frederick H. Ecker Emeritus Professor of Insurance and Risk Management and Academic Director of the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) Program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is also a Senior Fellow in the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics and a Senior Fellow in the Financial Institutions Center at the Wharton School.

In his book Sephton provides an inside look into his personal struggles with entrepreneurship along many other success stories that have resulted in the ability to turn dreams into reality. The goal of the book is to help you strengthen your mindset, build your character, harvest your thoughts, and stimulate your personal growth in order to turn your struggles into actionable advantages to achieve your dreams. The book is a very simple read where the reader can actually jump in and out of the book. There are 23 chapters in the book and 20 of them are only 3 to 5 pages long.

With Mark’s experience he gives amazing insight on how to completely turn your mindset around and your business right-side up. #insidejob is a phenomenal book! Mr. Sephton's honesty and passion for helping entrepreneurs succeed in business and personal life is clearly evident. This book is not only for entrepreneurs but any one who needs to re-center their minds and lives with positive change. Mr. Sephton's inspiring and motivating words leap off of the page and cause you to turn them into real life action. Mr. Sephton's writing style made #insidejob an easy read but his words were thought provoking and challenging. I found myself highlighting many life changing and thought changing truths throughout the book that really had an impact on my personal life. I was also able to let go of negativity that I was holding on to from my past. If you need inspiration to make your thoughts and life positive and successful this is a great book! "You are only as good as the thoughts you think".

fun for word nerds

The subtitle sums it up pretty nicely: A Circular Stroll Through the Hidden Connections of the English Language. Forsyth, the man behind the blog Inky Fool, is obsessed with where words come from and with wit takes you on a roundabout journey through his obsession. I started reading this fully thinking, that I'd pick it up here and there when I needed a break from my current fiction in progress. But I pretty much read this book straight through and enjoyed it very much. The target audience is definitely word nerds, though. One chapter I enjoyed was titled "Concealed Farts." In a nineteenth-century dictionary, the author found this definition for fice:

A small windy escape backwards, more obvious to the nose than ears; frequently by old ladies charged [blamed] on their lap-dogs.

He continues:

And fice itself comes from the Old English fist, which likewise meant fart. In Elizabethan times a smelly dog was called a fisting cur, and by the eighteenth century any little dog was called a feist, and that's where we get the word feisty from. Little dogs are so prone to bark at anything that an uppity girl was called fiesty, straight from the flatulent dogs of yore. This is a point well worth remembering when you're next reading a film review about a 'feisty heroine.'

If you like words and odd facts, you'll love the Etymologicon

A friend said, you have to read this book. They couldn't quite say why. And it's true that this book defies explanation. (Or to put it another way, any way you try and explain it sounds either a little pointless or rather dull. I'll try and do better!)

Mark Forsyth traces word roots, finds connections between words and phrases and tells stories - sometimes from today, sometimes from the recent past, and occasionally back to the days of the earliest human languages. His mind (I suspect) and this book (I can vouch) are a kind of linguistic equivalent of online WILFing. (WILF? Well, it ought to be wwilf. It stands for, "What was I looking for?" and it's a way of describing those lost eight hours you spent browsing websites about pre-Ptolemaic kingdoms, when all you meant to do was find the population of Brisbane for your daughter's geography project.)

Each section of the book (the word 'chapter' doesn't really fit) is a kind of walking tour of the linguistic highlands. You learn a lot along the way, but in truth what's happening is that you're mainly enjoying the company of your witty and learned guide, as he traces strange connections, notes the oddities of word origins and how often we use terms that have fascinating (and occasionally scandalous) origins and generally makes you think about the English language.

I loved the book, and keep it on my Kindle. And it's given me a whole mine of useless but fascinating information. It's certainly a good book to give as a gift: it's a fun book just to dip into for anyone with the slightest interest in language. If you're anything like me you will read and re-read. I find I remember that there's a curious story behind a particular word, but I have to go back to the book to search it out. (I wonder if Forsyth really goes around with all this in his head!)

Some people may find the author's style irritating. And if you're looking for an academic study, this book is definitely not for you. Dip into the book via Amazon's useful 'Look Inside' feature. If you're grabbed - get it. And if you don't like the sample, you won't like the whole.

I don't know any books that are similar, but if you are interested in the English language, I would recommend The Mother Tongue - English And How It Got That Way, or The Adventure of English: The Biography of a Language. Or if you like this kind of curious adventure through facts and counter-facts, try QI: the Book of General Ignorance (Q1).

A hilarious ramble through the undergrowth of the English language

If you're a closet etymologist or casual linguicist, like me, then this is the book for you. Mark Forsyth leads a merry ramble through the tangled roots of the English language, identifying verbal histories and connections which are sometimes quite mind-boggling.

A sequence of short chapters each explores a topic, usually identifying a stream of words stemming from a common source, whether that be a Greek, Latin or proto-Indo-European root, a language which has been partially adopted into the English tapestry, or a fount of linguistic innovation such as the writings of Milton. In many cases he threads a route through time, geography and lexical space to words which have dramatically different or even opposite meanings to their antecedents.

While each chapter can be read alone, Forsyth cunningly links them together, with each feeding the next, and the last linking back to the first like Ouroboros swallowing its tail.

The writing is always amusing, and occasionally funny enough to stimulate a laugh out loud. Forsyth reserves particular cruelty for poets, and other specialists in the use and abuse of words. My favourite quote: "[we] should devote a chapter to Samuel Johnson's dictionary. So we won't." Myles Coverdale, editor of an early English Bible, is characterised by "[he] didn't let the tiny detail that he knew no Latin, Greek or Hebrew get in his way. This is the kind of can-do attitude that is sadly lacking in modern biblical scholarship."

This isn't a learned book, and its structure and style preclude any deep exploration of a particular topic. But it will convey a broad appreciation of the mixing of the rich Jambalaya which is the English language, and will certainly pique your interest at understanding where words come from, as well as their immediate meaning.

Thus was born Habib Rehman, the hotelier. It was another chance meeting with Ajit Haksar, the visionary first Indian chairman of ITC, that propelled Rehman to the next stage of his career. So impressed was Haksar by the young manager of the Rama international, that he offered him a job with the fledgling ITC hotels division – Haksar’s brainchild. Rehman joined ITC hotels in 1979. The rest is history. From a three-property enterprise-the chola Sheraton in Chennai, the Maurya in Delhi and the Mughal Sheraton in Agra, ITC hotels has grown to more than 100 properties in 70 destinations worldwide.

Much of this growth took place under Rehmans stewardship and close personal involvement. His love of food, a natural outcome of his Hyderabadi genes, led him to nurture and lead several iconic restaurants amongst many ITC properties across the country.

Though hobnobbing with the likes of Bill and Hillary Clinton, Peter O’Toole and Elizabeth Taylor was just part of the job, Rehman never lost the common touch-a lesson learned in the army, an institution he loved and never ceased to draw inspiration from throughout his career in the hospitality industry-two worlds seemingly poles apart but surprisingly complementary when it came to the management of men and resources. Borders to boardroom is a memoir that educates and delights in equal measure. For those in the hospitality industry, or keen to learn about it, this book provides invaluable insights. It could also serve as a primer in the art of management, telling as it does the story of ITC, one of the country’s most professionally managed corporate houses. ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL

Superior than any novel. Gripping true life story of one of the most famous personalities of the Indian hospitality industry. If it were not Mr. Rehman's vision the culinary scene of Indian cuisine would have been vastly inferior to what it is today. 42% of the memoir was read in just one sitting, thanks to the possibility of reading the memoir on kindle. I was able to adjust the lighting, the font size. I also enriched my vocabulary by tapping on to keywords, understanding their meaning and their usage.

I have always prided myself to be a true soldier and a true son to India and have never faulted once in my life in the matter of service to India's interests and "cause".

I have always been devoted to the cause of the defense services - the army, the navy, and the airforce and its personnel.

I know that defense service personnel go through a lot of hardship in safeguarding the interests of civilians. However the memoirs of Mr. Rehman enlightened me for the first time about the true "hardships" of postings at places which are six days of walking distance from human habitation, where the weather is forever adverse and where essential nutrients are not available, and cannot be even air-dropped.

The writing style is very simple and I remember almost all the details even with the quick reading. I have read all my Tintin comic books at least 15 times each -- the full collection from the age of 8 years to date and have benefited from each reading. In a similar fashion I read all the important newspaper articles many times to grasp their content intimately.

I'll definitely re-read Borders to Boardroom many times.

A salute to Mr. Rehman-Great personality. It was a pleasure to have worked under his leadership.

ABOUT THE TITLE PUTTER

First, I would like to explain a title of a collection of my five short stories. A putter is a club used in golf for striking the ball into the hole from a very short distance. Metaphorically, playing with balls and clubs can be understood as having sex. So, as a title, Putter implies erotic situations in which you missed ‘hole-in-one’ and you need a putter for the next stroke. But suddenly you find yourself on the verge of the hole while other person has a chance to complete the course with you making one single shot. However because you are so close to the hole it means that this shot will not be the first one, it means this person also needs a putter. I call such situation simply ‘putter’.
Using the putter requires a great deal of skill, as does satisfying your unexpected sexual fascination. In both cases, what matters most is not how quickly you act, but whether you’ve chosen the right way to achieve your goal. My characters start off with the question of ‘Your place or mine?’, but end up asking about their sexual preferences and the importance of passion in everyday life. I tell the stories about the difficulties in defining personal sexual orientation without easy categorization: either heterosexual or homosexual.

My favourite short story is “Rue de Babylone”

Five really well written short stories. This is a book that charms a reader from the first sentence. I become at once drawn into a remarkable game of hot emotion and cold calculation.

My favourite short story is “Rue de Babylone”. I was in Paris twice, but next time I’ll take Putter with me because I want to see the places where Daris met Teo and they both tried not to fall in love. Everybody chooses Paris for sentimental reason, but Daris and Teo are too sophisticated to be sentimental, so they don’t want to show their true feelings.
Aman Payor is a gifted story-teller.

I haven't read this kind of literature before but I really liked it. I've thought it's gonna be only about sex as I suspected before reading but... I was so wrong! It's a piece of really good literature, with a subtle references to other writers, i.e. Balzac etc. Really liked this kinda ambigous narratives!

Hope Aman will publish next short stories (maybe a novel?) in the nearest future.

A great little book

A great little book, showing the intricacies of human (or male to male) relationships. People say that life is simple - well no, it isn't (and luckily so, I'd say). One of the best books about complicated gay infatuations and relationships I've read. Very frank ans explicit too, but also with literary merit. A good read and a good book, just that! Strogly recommend!

So Hot, I love exploring a new side of Hugh

Take Three Breaths is the book where get to see a more vulnerable side to Hugh as he tries to find his feet in the relationship with Truman.
Truman and Will finds a way to make Hugh open up to them. In the process Truman learns more about running a scene and we learn Hugh's safeword!
Also Hugh follow Truman when he visits his dad in the hospital. It is their 3 year anniversary and Hugh is unsure how to best be there for Truman. I love following them getting closer.

Still falling more and more in love with the wonderful cast of characters that manages to surprise me and challenge my world view. Love how characters actually talk to each other. Crazy about the mixture of bsdm, sex, love, fun, growth and acceptance. Impressed with the very slow and steady building of the sex; each scene feels like progress and yet nothing spirals out of control.

Plot stagnates

The story seemed to stagnate at this level. It focuses on the depression one character feels after the death of someone they know. It might have held more punch if the person who died had actually been close the character. As it was, me as the reader was unable to relate to the situation and the characters just seemed to be over dramatic about it. But, maybe a more sensitive person would be able to relate better.

Tables are turned a bit in this one with Hugh being the one in need. Again, everything I loved about the previous books is continued here. The fabulous dialog, smoking hot scenes, relationship progression, etc. Will remains an integral part of these guys, and I absolutely adore him. Bring on the next segment!

Simple easy to understand, policy for the Levant.

A measured and insightful examination of the quagmire that is Syria and Iraq. Examining the failures of the west and the challenges that face any future governing body in the Levant. The authors have used open source information as well as information from people on the ground to flesh out the complexity of Daash and the radical Islamist movement. The e-book reads like a briefing and should be viewed as information that is currently available. I found the no nonsense recommendations for foreign policy refreshing and easily understood. I would highly recommend sending a copy to your Congressman.

Great Analysis - Light Recommendations

In the end the book was disappointing to me. The first half of the book where the Authors analyze and inform us who ISIS is and where it came from is outstanding. Probably the best analysis Ive read of what is going on over there right now. As the book gets into solutions I just did not find them solutions that can work with our government and society. The individual recommendations for us to implement to become part of the solution I didn't find actionable at all. I gave it a three for the powerful analysis. I couldn't go to five because I just didn't find the solution as advertised.

This is a good, relatively quick to read summary of the problem of ISIS, and how to best solve that problem. I am some one who likes to stay informed on what is happening in the world, especially as it relates to conflict, but I'm also someone who works for a living and doesn't necessarily have time to read through tons of, often hard to find, assessments on what is happening and the cause of the issue. It's great to find such a well done, thorough, simple to read assessment of a pretty complex problem that the world currently faces.

Wish I could give more stars!! Wonderful book that has you smiling from beginning to end and then some. Having grown up in the same small town it's nice to hear the stories of Jim McClellan's adventures growing up as an avid outdoorsman in our local woods and on our rivers. It brings back such good memories of a simpler time and a simpler life. Jim has made our county very, very proud.

Fantastic musings and reminances about growing up in the Florida Gulf South. Excellent writing is paired with often surprising and always entertaining stories that likely have a bit more than a kernel of truth. Politics, family, hunting and fishing - nothing is safe or sacred. Look forward to the next book from this promising new author. Highly reccomended.

This was an easy, fun read that brought me so much insight into my adopted home of Northwest Florida. The author's style is folksy, yet sophisticated. I felt like I could hear his voice as I read, like good tales told around a campfire. Highly recommend!

Informative, concise

This is a great overview. Frankly, this topic is incredibly boring and almost painful to read about. However, I really needed to get some background because I've been asked to join a board recently and I wanted to understand some about the organization's background and financial status. This offers a quick introduction. I know that there's a lot more I could learn on the subject, but that would just take more time than I'm able to dedicate at this juncture, so I've decided that this introduction is sufficient. I mean, if you're already acquainted with how to read financial statements then this will probably not shed new light on the topic for you, but if you just want a working understanding of things and want to understand the basic terminology, this is perfect.

A sound and well explained book which aims to bring this sometimes difficult subject to readers in an accessible way. I found it to be well presented, and the key things I needed to learn about FSA was really nicely explained. I couldn't be more happier about finding this one and I think the guide is well worth the reader.
