After one of his fans committed suicide, John lost everything: lover, confidence, drive. When he is given a chance to get back on his feet, he is happy to take it—even if it's just writing an actor's biography. It might not be romance, or even fiction, but it's something, and there are worse people to work for than the charming, successful Parker Chase. That doesn't mean working for Parker is easy, however. A staunch supporter of living for the moment, Parker goes against everything John believes in. He feels out of place in every moment of Parker's Hollywood life, stuck in a game of wits that at times seems almost contrived...

2015 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention
By Elisa
The multifaceted characters drew me in right away. The writing was fantastic, mostly due to all of the plot's twists and turns. There was so much happening, that I had no idea how this story was going to turn out. I love when a book surprises and fascinates me at the same time. This book did that.

The Risks We Take For Love
By Darkprism
"It's never just a story," is a phrase I use all the time because, well, the best ones aren't. The best stories are metaphors for life experiences. They're people making sense out of life's chaos and showing us how they managed to do it. Or, at the very least, how they'd do it differently and successfully if they had the chance to try again.
I'm not sure if Mr. Henley intended THE CHASE AND THE CATCH to be a metaphor for the risks we all take with love, but for me, that's precisely what he did. This is a story of a man presented with someone whom he could love, really and truly, and he's trying to figure out if he should. Can he trust himself? Can he trust Parker?
Can he trust anything or anyone when love knocks?
The last time, metaphorically and literally speaking, didn't go so well. Mr. Henley manages to weave some serious symbolism into the catastrophic event which John Liege has to overcome in order to make better, smarter choices in love and partners. First, he has an obsessed fan who commits suicide by diving off a bridge and landing on John's car. Second, his partner can't handle the emotionally roller coaster that comes with healing from such a wretched event. And currently, John is plagued by dreams in which the fan tries to drag John over the side of the bridge with him. John is terrified, and rightfully so. If one takes a few steps back from the pages and squints, it's pretty easy to see how the death of the fan is a symbol for the last failed love affair of the Everyman's life.
The last time love came calling, it was the immature, obsessed, twisted kind of love that ended in a dive of fate and faith that almost ruined John's life. The last time "love" was involved, it nearly ruined everything John stands for and desires. It even took away a connection John valued and trusted – his partner, Sam.
John's a man who believes in connection, not phalluses in bodies. He believes in happy endings. He thinks when the clock strikes midnight, true love's kiss will be there to stop everything from fading away. He's a sweet man with a romantically magic soul who's taken one hell of a hard hit. To the windshield, no less. If cars are symbols for how we move through life, then life and circumstances beyond his control slammed into a huge obstacle that tried to crush him with grief and loss.
Enter Parker Chase. Personally, I love that Parker isn't given a lot of description. Nor are we ever told how John ended up getting the contract to write Parker's life story. We are dropped into this dream, into this metaphor, of a man presented with the beautiful possibility of love, romance, and success. And on the outside, gracious but it looks *good.* The mansion is expansive, the lawn is immaculate, the man who lives there is a veritable god. He is worshipped. Served. Protected. Clearly, many people believe him to have value. Even John, himself, thinks Parker has value. He says it over and over again: "The fans want to know the real you. They love you and they want to know you."
John's claim for the fans also includes himself. He's impressed with the setting and the illusion of perfection, but he's not fooled by it. He knows, as all of us do, that when presented with perfection, there is always...
...a catch.
Parker's perfect life is symbolic of how every relationship starts: with glorious rose-colored glasses. Slowly but surely, though, the illusion fades. We discover that the person we want has down sides. Parker is selfish, pushy, arrogant, and clearly confused over what in life actually matters. This makes pretty good sense considering he was raised with wealth and power already well established. He's a manchild struggling to grow up and find real meaning. He's already started forming his own ideas about what should matter in life as opposed to what capitalism and so-called culture would dictate to matter. Then Parker takes one look at John and thinks he's found somebody who can lead him farther down that path; could travel with him as a partner. Even his friends see something in John that might be good for Parker, though their intentions don't exactly come from the best of places.
When the illusion shatters and the cards are all played, The Chase and the Catch slides right into everyone's greatest fear: what if the chance we are given for love turns out to be a disaster? What if it isn't real? How can we have faith in love while expecting the other shoe to drop at the same time? To quote the novel: "Is it possible to carve reality from fantasy if one was constantly worried that the knife was going to slip?"
John's reminded over and over to stay true to himself because he already knows the real answers to those questions. But because he's gotten sidetracked by tragedy, something everyone can understand, he needs to be reminded. And he gets a reminder from the most unlikely but most hopeful source of all: Parker.
"...if... it's real connection, it's never for a bad purpose. There's a huge difference between somebody else's creeping need to be part of you and the honest to goodness spiritual connection of two souls."
What I love the most is that the entire book serves as a reminder to us, as well. We all seek real connection, and we all have within us the ability to tell the difference between what's real and what's fake. Even if we've been hurt. Even if life's thrown us curveballs that have sent us off course.
So long as we don't give up, we keep trying, and we're true to ourselves, well... We'll have that kiss when the clock strikes midnight and everything, one way or the other, through hard work and perhaps the help of one very insightful cat, will turn out just fine.
Highly recommended for anyone who wants to read a book about love and hope and finding both.

Amazing mental head games
By Amazon Customer
This is a story about John and Parker. John is an author from Canada that has been through a tragedy, he’s not blocked by it. But he’s having some issues getting focused. So he has decided to take a job writing a Biography, even though he’s a romance writer by trade. But to do this he must travel to the person’s home, out of his self imposed shell. Parker is a famous Hollywood actor. With a reputation that supersedes him. He’s known as a self-centered, pompous jerk among his friends.
John is a hopeless romantic! Even though the events of his life have thrown him some curve balls he still believes. When he gets to Parkers house he soon finds that he is attracted to Parker but won't act because he knows someone like Parkers just wants one-night stands and John isn't built that way. As the days pass and Parker turns on the charm John finds it harder and harder to say no. Parker is intrigued by John, can someone really believe in these forever moments?
I loved this story!! It’s only about 155 pages so a fast read. (Thank goodness work was slow today!) I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed reading that John is a romantic and sticking by his beliefs. The mental games played by both MC’s. The slow build between the two was smoldering. The twist at the end didn't see that coming, well played Henley, well played! Will be going through this authors backlist and catching up on everything I've missed.
Also, as this author bio- reads he’s from Canada, so they aren't spelling, grammar mistakes. It appears he chose not to conform to the American way. Well done!
