Is that it?

This was a decent short book but at the end I was left wondering if the rest of the book failed to load. Is this book 1 of a series? This book introduced 2 antagonist and then didn't finish telling what happened with either of them. One of the bad guys still seems to be an active threat but we're just supposed to be content with the HEA that is still up in the air with threats still around. I finished the book and was like WTF?

In my opinion Krylov's memoir belongs to the best in this type of literature. This smart witty man was talented in many different areas. His book full of bright precise observations and wise thoughts about the time and people around him is very enjoyable and informative reading. Unfortunately until now it did not exist in English. Thanks to the great work of the translator bringing to us this masterpiece!

The book of professor Krylov's Navy memoir of "Naval Architect" is the way to establish the canonisation of the person who was involved in Russian the biggest naval failure in Port Arthur and Tsushima battles in 1904-1905. Russia not only lost the war to Japan, but it also lost all strategic influence to naval field at this time. In Tsushima battle Russia's loss was 4,380 dead, 5,917 people captured and 21 ships sunk in the water(according to Wickipedia).Russia lost almost all it's fleet and capitulated permanently.
It will be interesting to know what "Naval Architect" Krylov thought about these events in his memoir.

The cat has a heart, but I needed a magnifying glass.

Winkie is a precious kitty. I could hear the cat talking as I read this neat story, suited for sharing with a young audience. At first I wondered what kind of conflict it would have. (All stories require some kind of struggle.) Soon I discovered it has subtle but good conflicts. Winkie tries to gain understanding of some important aspects of life. If I explain too much about Winkie's need to gain insights, I'll spoil the story for you. Just read it. You will see some ways a child can project personal concerns into the book.

Although the content is of five-star quality, the presentation of the photos is three-star. From what I could see, the photos are excellent, but they were so tiny on my Kindle that I had trouble seeing them.

Four stars is an average of five and three.

A heartwarming tale about a cat family. My child enjoyed it and I enjoyed reading it to him. The book is written in the first person voice and as I read the story to my kid, I enjoyed trying to sound like Winkie the cat.

It is by far the most festive time of year, marked by parties, church services and giving gifts. It is also a popular vacation time, as families use the breaks given by offices and schools to travel, often to exotic destinations. That is why so many of those who witnessed the Great Tsunami of 2004 were not native to the areas struck but had traveled there to enjoy the sun during the dead of winter. Most of them slept soundly on Christmas night and woke up the following morning with plans to enjoy a fun day playing along white beaches or exploring dense jungles. For many, it was supposed to be the adventure of a lifetime, but for everyone in the region, it would instead become a fight for survival.

Around 8:00 a.m. on December 26, a massive earthquake registering a 9.1-9.3 on the Richter Scale struck off of Sumatra, Indonesia, making it the 3rd strongest earthquake ever recorded by seismographs. On top of that, the earthquake shook for nearly 10 minutes and generated incredibly strong tsunami waves, some of which topped out at over 100 feet tall as they crashed inland in places like Thailand, India, and Indonesia. Given the great distances traveled, some of the tsunami waves didn’t reach shore until 7 hours after the earthquake, but thanks to the element of surprise, people in the region had virtually no warning of what was coming. With more energy than that generated by every weapon and bomb used during World War II combined, the tsunami waves pulverized entire towns and swept away hundreds of thousands of people across Southeast Asia, in addition to displacing more than a million people.

Given how calamitous the events were, a massive outpouring of humanitarian support was sent to the affected areas, and over $10 billion was poured into relief efforts. Not surprisingly, a better tsunami detection system was also designed to prevent against any similar occurrence, even though it’s believed that the last similar event in that region took place over 500 years earlier. Outstanding Brief Coverage, with Eyewitness Accounts, of one of the Worst Natural Disasters in History

Just as do many people, I have an insatiable appetite for knowledge in a lot of topics. Because I am aging and because I want to know about so many different topics, I choose not to get into too much detail on most of those subjects. Therefore, the booklets published by Charles Rivers Editors are of great use to be. Many of them that I've read thus far have quenched my thirst quite well.

The 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake and Tsunami is one of their better booklets. There are a number photographs, but, alas, they are not as impressive as many pics I've seen. Still, they do help augment the eyewitness accounts that are included.

For anyone interested in reading the eyewitness accounts of one of the most horrific natural disasters in our history, this is an outstanding starting point.

I enjoyed reading first hand accounts of people who survived the tsunami, however, it was poorly edited, and some sentences didn't make sense.
