Missed the point and needs an editor

Books like this are the reason so few people take self-published authors seriously... the author is borderline illiterate. Her grammar and syntax are so bad I can barely understand it, and the content is not valuable enough to justify the hassle of trying to read her atrocious writing.

Cheap: refusing to spend a dime to the detriment of your overall quality of life because your saving that dime takes precedence over quality of product or positive life experience.
Frugal: carefully budgeting your income to most effectively use your money as a means to live a richer life.

Most of this book is the author badly trying to justify her miserable cheapskate lifestyle and unconvincingly urging others to follow in her footsteps, with every semi-literate turn of phrase seeping insecurity as she weakly defends her choice to dress badly just to save a couple bucks. The first couple chapters are a moan fest demonizing people who would dare to *gasp* spend any amount of money on non-necessities that make life a little easier or a little nicer.

She missed the point of minimalism by a long shot... the end goal of becoming a more frugal person is to improve the overall quality of your life via snowball effect, not to save money for its own sake to leave it sitting in a bank account until the day you die. Hoarding money for no apparent reason is actually the opposite of what minimalism is about. That's a pretty sad existence, and I really feel bad for the author that she thinks a handful of change is more important than enjoying your life to the fullest.

I recommend passing on this book and picking up Miss Minimalist instead if you want to read actual advice to adopt a simpler lifestyle. Also check out a blog called "Becoming Minimalist."

In this book we have a good blend of proven principles and the author's real-life experiences. I was encouraged to sharpen up my budget, spend less on the uniimportant, and become wiser in saving on the necessities of life. Will all this be enjoyable? Perhaps not at first, but to be free from debt and tight end-of-the-month spending will, I'm sure, be worth it. All that is covered in the "Frugality: Pros & Cons" chapter.

Frugality is first of all an inner look as we assess ourselves and our lifestyle. The author gives precise ways of doing that, including an Excel spreadsheet if you have one. What is budgeting? The word sounds anti-fun. How about "planning?" Short-term and long-term planning in how we will direct our lives is the key. Knowing that gives us purpose.

-- Projecting expenses
-- Wise credit card management
-- The challenge to save -- avoid the syndrome of "the more money you make, the more you'll spend"

Not quite sure that I learned anything

This short book on frugality is easy to read, although there are some strange phrases here and there. The author generally talks about frugality as spending as little as possible, reusing things, getting out of debt and keeping a budget but doesn't get very specific. The few examples that are given are fairly random and generic. I am not sure that I learned much.

Good story, good characters!

Riley Robinson has escaped from Denver to a B & B at a small resort in the mountains below Pike's Peak. She is escaping a bad break up. Her lover, Lisa, had been "seeing" Jen, Lisa's ex. At the resort, Riley finds out the bathroom for her cabin is also the bathroom for the cabin on the other side. That cabin is occupied by Ana Potrero, who is a consultant for a wine company. Ana and Riley share wine, laughs, and passion before returning to their homes. Riley can't forget the gorgeous, bright, and funny woman, but won't consider a long distance affair.

When Riley and Ana run into each other at the Denver airport, they rekindle their passion.
Clevenger has given readers two very likeable women in Riley and Ana. Riley, a physical therapist, is warm, funny, and has plenty of history. The same thing is true of Ana, but while Riley is a blue jeans kind of gal, Ana is strictly a buyer of designer clothing. Their differences are obvious, but, could a relatonship still work out?

Clevenger has also created some strong supporting characters, including Sharon, the owner of the B & B. There is the excitement of a flood, the realities of winter in Denver, and some very intense love scenes. All of these make for a very good read.

A fun read with an extra layer of introspection

I really liked this book. It does exactly what I want a romance to do -- interesting characters, good sex scenes, and just the right amount of anticipation as to how it will all work out in the end (which of course it does)! But it also does a little bit more. By switching between the present and the main character's past relationships the author added a depth of perspective to the main character and to the story as a whole. Many romances just focus on the basic girl meets girl narrative, which is of course fun. But this book asks more of the reader. It asks us to think about how our past relationships impact how we enter into new ones, how we acknowledge the baggage we bring, and how we work through our pasts to be fully present with our current partners. The past we all bring with us into new relationships is too often ignored in romances, and I found it both interesting and refreshing to see the characters wrestle with this question.

A very good read but...

I really lkked this book. I felt the 2 main characters, Ana and Riley, were well developed and likable and hate-able at times. The story was a good one too...basically about two people with baggage and insecurities about themselves, each other, and maybe even the environment around them.

I do have 2 big gripes about the book. Chapters 2 and 4 are about Riley's past and actually messes up the flow of Ana and Riley's story. I found myself quickly scanning these chapters to get back to the main characters. I feel it would have served the book better as a Prologue to the story. Also, the ending (which is good one) did not leave me feeling complete closure for the characters and there were still so many things left up in the air. If a sequel is possible then I guess I understand but if not then the lack of an Epilogue makes me a bit frustrated.

Despite that, I really did like the story and recommend it if you're in the mood for a baggage filled, slight head shaking, leave you hanging or wanting more romance.

A must have book on every shelf!

I really enjoyed this book! It taught me how I can be more patient and how to be a great leader. It taught me to never give up on myself when I may feel doubtful of my personal achievements. It is an easy read with powerful lessons! I would recommend purchasing this book. This book is for anyone and everyone! A native of Fort Collins, Barbara Fleming has lived there most of her life. She graduated from Colorado State University and worked as a teacher, then as a training coordinator, before retiring. She is the author of several books of local history and writes a weekly column for the Fort Collins Coloradoan. An avid reader, she also enjoys spending time with family and friends, and playing bridge. She has three grown children and two granddaughters and lives with her gray cat, Shadow.

My great grandfather Judd Walker was murdered in Ft Collins in 1935.This book had pictures of his cabin, the sheriff and Fred Hoflund the man who murdered him. Fred Hoflund was a member of our family by marriage and grandfather let him stay at the cabin because he was in the process of getting a divorce.Very interesting book would recommend to everyone..

These are just a few of the photos taken by my cousin, Mark Miller. They moved from Kansas to Colorado in 1914 and lived there the rest of their life.

Our greatgrandfather moved to Kansas in 1867, into the area then known as the deminishing Osage Indian Resorvation.

Mark had a very keen eye for outstanding pictures.

About the Author
My Grandson lives in another state than I do. We Facetime regularly, hence Grandma-in-the Box. I am bedridden with Multiple Sclerosis. I was right handed all my life until MS made it useless. I illustrated this book with my left hand. Even though it looks like a ten year old drew it, I am pleasantly surprised I wanted to do something real special for Jack.

The first in a series, this little book has captured my imagination and I am looking forward to sharing as gifts this Christmas. With pluck and determination, this animal-loving author has given us a glimpse of the pets that have mattered in her family through an engaging but simple story.

Good for kids, King Peanut - The Big Black Cat is also an inspiration for any who is - or knows someone who is - living life with special challenges. Grandma in the Box (June Ko-Dial) shows us that we should all find some way to share the stories that are in our hearts and minds.
