He falls back in to shifter life very easily. He is clan leader

From the blurb I was initially very intrigued about the idea of a mythical, very rare race of Saber Tooth tiger shifters. I wanted to know more about them and their history but also wanted to see what would happen between the two main characters.
Nexhan is a clan leader of a race of saber-tooth cats called, The Rune Fang. He returns to his clan after a self imposed exile. He falls back in to shifter life very easily. He is clan leader, the alpha of his people and he takes on the roll like he hasn’t been gone at all. He is a natural leader and care taker. You know right away that he is nursing some pretty heavy scars but it’s not apparent right away what they are.
Cole is a cougar shifter who is staying with the Rune Fang because he feels like he doesn’t belong with his cougar clan. He feels awkward and clumsy. He also feels like a huge burden and disappointment to his family. He has kept his sexual orientation a secret believing his family would not be able to accept it because they are pushing a mating to a woman that he could never love.
Nexhan and Cole were immediately attracted to each other and while they were exploring their attraction weird things started happening around Cole. I liked this element of the story. I loved how the author made it seem like the plants, animals, and nature would come to life when Cole was around. I really loved finding out how special and unique Cole really was.
I liked the back story of Shairobi but at times it seemed like it was too much back story. For me, I was more confused than enlightened.
Nexhan and Cole were super hot together but I missed the “emotional” aspect of the two. Nexhan was pining over his lost love for about 98% of the story so the love between Cole and Nexhan couldn’t fully blossom like I wanted it too.
With that being said, I still really loved the story. The world that the author describes is enthralling. I will, without a doubt be picking up book #2.

Good, but a lot of spelling mistakes

If I was giving stars based solely on the writing style and plot of this novel it would probably get a 4 or a 4.5. It was an interesting story of shifters and not the usual wolf shifters either. The main focus was on a saber tooth like cat called a Rune Fang and a cougar. That in itself was a nice change. Nexhan was a strong alpha. He was dominant, especially during the sex scenes (and there's quite a few of those), but there was only one time he was an ass about it. Nexhan believes that an alpha should serve his people, not the other way around. Cole had his own problems and self-doubts in the beginning and it was nice to see him grow more confident in himself. I really enjoyed the bond among the Rune Fangs and how much they enjoyed each other's company. This novel is more fantasy than contemporary though. I know a lot of shifter books have the main character(s) as shifters, but everything else is modern. However, in this book there is magic and while the Rune Fangs have some technology it seems they rely more on their magic to sustain them and technology is more of a new wonder to them. Some of the characters have ventured out into human civilization, where everything is modern and pretty much set into today's times (though we don't see this, only hear about it). So this is definitely not a historical novel, but the focus is more on nature, magic, and shifters who don't think they are good enough to belong with other shifters for a variety of reasons.
Now to the possible downsides of this book, depending on how you judge a book. There are spelling mistakes everywhere and it got annoying. Usually I can just skim over a few mistakes and not really mind because sometimes they're easy to miss when editing. However, this was ridiculous. One time the word was supposed to be 'yelling', but the word in its place was 'yellowing'. They're not even close to being the same. So if spelling errors really irritate you this book will drive you nuts, which is sad because otherwise this book is written pretty well I think. Another thing that may bother some people, though it didn't bother me. Cole can be arrogant. This is a defense mechanism and Nexhan knows that and Cole isn't always arrogant, but if even slight arrogance in a character annoys you then you probably won't like this book either. Lastly, Nexhan screws up at one point in the book and he and everyone knows it. Cole forgives him pretty fast and easily though. So if you want guys to work for their forgiveness then one part of the book may also not make you to happy.
Overall, I liked the fantasy feel of this book and I have always loved books with shifters in them so I enjoyed it; however, I think I could have enjoyed it more if there hadn't been so many spelling errors. There is a sequel, but I'm going to read the excerpt before I purchase.

Nexhan is a clan leader plagued by his past and his sense of failure. Cole is the typical outcast…clumsy, quiet and angry. A chance meeting could heal them both and lead to a startling discovery in this captivating m/m paranormal romance. The author has created a fascinating world filled with some unique shifters and elements that make for a refreshing change. It has touches of otherworldly, divine, mystical and modern all mixed together in a fine tuned blending of worlds to become its own reality hidden within human reality. I was completely enthralled with the story from the very beginning and I feel that it promises to be a fascinating series, so I can’t wait to read the next one and see where it takes me.
