About an hour and forty minutes into the flight, the engine faltered and quit. When an attempt to restart the engine failed I turned to the west and began to lose altitude. When I determined I was not going to make it to my pre-planned landing area, I elected to steer the plane toward a large clump of lime colored forest. Following the impact with the trees, I laid still on my side for a few minutes trying to ascertain what injuries I might have. I had not lost consciousness during the crash and was alert, surprised and relieved that I wasn’t in any pain. The left side of my face was resting on the forest duff, and I could see outside of the plane through a small opening in the fuselage. My left arm was pinned against the ground and I was unable to move it. My legs were in an awkward position, with my knees bent and lower legs twisted upward and to my right. I was able to wiggle my toes and rotate my ankles but other movements were very restricted. There was a stinging sensation in my left leg just above the knee, and below the kneecap on my right leg. I didn’t think my legs were broken because I could move them and there wasn’t any pain. I was concerned I was bleeding so I used my right hand to examine as much of my body as I could reach. I felt fluid seeping down my leg and assumed it was blood from the cuts. Other than that, I didn’t seem to be bleeding anywhere else. Considering the violence of the crash, it seemed my injuries were minimal.

My CAP Squadron and a neighbor squadron were a part of the search and find. This account is priceless in fleshing out a spectacular find of a pilot still among us - gutsy, smart, beacon on - off to save battery and give sign of life, Dennis' s ingenious efforts to keep hydrated, a story for the SAR ages.
My lifetime in uniform (USAF, USAFR, CAP) and the dedication of those around me (CAP) all came to fruition on the day when a still living Dennis said things like (paraphrasing) I knew it was CAP engines up there looking for me and I knew you'd come. I still feel great emotion about our National organization when I reflect on him, Dennis Steinbock, our reluctant visitor.
A great read, his work is not intended as some literature for the ages, but is more a deep look at a single tragic event, added to by all of the living Dennis enjoyed up to that ordeal, and then his 'Miracle' of every day since. Those days being recounted after his crash, the very fact that there exists this good read as a testament to his survival, his kind words about CAP - all that makes every day of Search & Rescue training for many years worth it. Just ONE life? You dang betcha!

Nicely compiled story of an extraordinary incident that touched and permanently changed the lives of those involved. I could not put this book down once I started it. Very interesting to learn the workings of the civil air patrol. Amazing preparation and devotion. Truly a miracle that the rescuers and Mr. Steinbock were brought together in this way.

Sweet romance of overcoming fear

It seems as if every time I'm not feeling well l come across a story by Berengaria Brown and this one with it's quiet sweetness is like a balm. I wasn't up for a story that was loud, violent, overly complicated with a lot of characters. No subs & found or bondage or spankings. One that wasn't too emotional or overly dramatic. And I found it in this tale.

I didn't read the first story in this series, but I found the premise of "Welcoming His Man" compelling in a quiet way. I was not disappointed in my selection. This was a sweet story that had me smiling after the angst in the first chapter. I wanted the two men to have a HEA, especially the young man, Jethro from the small town where he had been "persecuted, harassed, and traumatized because of his sexual orientation". He finally has All that he ever desired a fresh start, a safe place to live, friends, and an introduction to what life as a gay man could be like. All that is except someone to love.

Bart is a very promising artist who is openly gay. He is gentle and patient with the young man he meets at the Bath house. They both share a strong mutual attraction. They also compliment each other in many ways. Watching them discover what could accomplish together was enjoyable.

This book isn't everyone's cup of tea. As a matter of fact it is a "cozy" m/m romance. Just like cozy mysteries aren't for everyone. Nor are regency romances, even gay ones. There's no big unveiling or catastrophe. Other than first chapter the story moves along at a sedate pace. It's not too long, just long enough to be tell a decent story.
