Both painful and absorbing

Both painful and absorbing, Sixty is an intimate portrait of a woman's grappling with a long ignored mental illness. In the wake of Princess Diana's s revealing her own issues with bulimia and anorexia, this story is an up-close personal account that I found riveting. Ms.Keeley is to be applauded for her courage to "tell" her life in such detail. Her voice is clear and honest and, given the large numbers** of young women and men who currently wage war with disease, I would hope for large readership. In my work I have contact to many such young people, and I am recommending that they read this book and discover that, indeed, there is hope.

** According to research by Deborah King, who writes of Eating Disorders (deborahking.com) one in every 200 American women are anorexic; 2-3 of every 200 women have bulimia. Boys account for 10-15% of anorectic/bulimic cases in the U.S.

An honest, personal look into mental illness

I could not put this book down! Ms. Keeley's descriptive writing made me feel like I was right there with her. Her organic writing style, along with her honest, very personal stories, reflections, and in the moment feelings helps me to understand mental illness so much more. She calls upon the reader to look at their own life... the stories we tell ourselves about what happen to us...and to question what is real and what is skewed by our own perceptions. My utmost respect to Ms. Keeley for having the courage (although she would not call it that) and fortitude to chronical her tumultuous life, so that we could understand and have more empathy and compassion for others...not only for those with mental illness but for all of who struggle to make sense of our lives. Thank you Ms. Keeley!

Great Anthology!

I was not able to read all the stories but I did get to most of them. The only author I have read anything from before was Emma Payne and that was from another Anthology.

Pictures By Mica Rae Rossi

Wow. That was one hot photo shoot! It is a short story but tons of action. The anticipation was amazing and the writing was beautiful. It really held my attention and can picture the scenes.

Jim is a widower and his friend has contacted him after over a year of not talking. Jim became a workaholic after his wife passed and with his wife gone his social life was not continued. He worked, drank and worked.
Now that his friend Corbin was back in the picture after one phone call, one lunch really he was invited to dinner with Corbin and his wife Belinda. They were a couple that also enjoyed what him and his wife did. And now, Corbin was asking Jim to help him and Belinda out. He wasn't sure about this proposal but in the end it would help all three of them.
This is one of the longer stories and thought it was awesome. The characters were great and it was sexy and had some emotion involved.

Overall, this was a great Anthology! All the stories were different and sexy. I enjoy reading anthologies mostly when I discover "new to me" authors!

Absolutely amazing and erotic anthology!

This was an absolutely amazing collection of erotic and emotional tales that will leave you beyond satisfied, but yet begging for more. I look forward to reading more from each author featured in this anthology. Definitely worth every penny, and I'll be purchasing paperback as soon as its released. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in putting this together, it was a pleasurable read to say the least.

The title is very fitting as the authors beautiful descriptive technique does just that, painting an erotic work of art that will get your heart beating a little faster. The power of suggestion can take the imagination to amazing places when spoken by the right individual. I absolutely loved the ending, didn't see that coming.

Fantasies and desires come true...one could only hope anyways. The author does a great job making the reader feel they are right their having their own little fantasy. The show of true love almost brought me to tears. Very, very, hot!

*Forward into Daylight by Michael C. Icofs
Very well detailed and deep emotions reveals the authors ability to capture your heart. Great highs and devastating loss through Melissa's self healing and discovery. I also enjoyed the good humor and quick wit, I found very refreshing.

*Switch Hitter by S.M. Rose
A lovely glimpse of true love and commitment. The author delivered a very erotic tale of two people who loved and trusted each other enough to explore what many may call taboo. Very subtle BDSM, but it is a nice undertone that adds perfectly to the intensity.

*Hayden by Tracey R. Deming
I'm a big fan of fantasy fiction as well as BDSM erotica and Tracey did an amazing job of combining them both. The devotion and admiration for Elle was remarkable. Each aspect of the story was intense, keeping me on my toes and gripping the edge of my seat.

I received a copy of this in exchange for an honest review for Michael Icofs piece, Forward into Daylight. If you're looking for a fresh approach to romance this is the story you want to read. It's well written but it's so much more than that. This is the first BDSM (it's light, not heavy kink) story that I have read where the sub is male and the Domme is female and I LOVED IT. This dynamic is rarely broached in the romance/erotica world but it's one that is liberating. Mr. Icofs gave a battered woman a voice, he gave her back her courage, her strength. He rebuilt in her through the submission of a man who loves hers. It tickles your senses, leaves you wanting more. He hints at the passion without going into intimate detail. I would love to see this novella turned into a full blown novel and hope that with the way Mr. Icofs left the ending, he may have intentions of giving us more of their story. I would highly recommend picking this one up and exposing yourself to some new authors. I'm excited to dive into more of Mr. Icofs work and hope that he continues to allow his readers to explore his submissive nature through his writing. Well done, sir!

Undercover worth reading

This book really deserved so much more than what was published. The premise of the story - very cool, the type of undercover work our hero undergoes - intriguing, the relationship between our two protagonists - oh so sweet. There's so much to like here, so much potential, but the writing flowed more like a rough draft and that totally detracted from how great this story could be. Very frustrating! A good edit would make this a 5 star book for sure. Still worth reading beside some of the flaws. There still so much to like despite it. I will check back to see if this story gets a second edition edit. It will be worth it.

John A. Allison is President and CEO of the Cato Institute. Previously he served for twenty years as Chairman and CEO of BB&T, one of the largest financial institutions in America. Allison is a former Distinguished Professor of Practice at Wake Forest University. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from American Banker, was named one of the decade’s top 100 most successful CEOs in the world by Harvard Business Review, and is the recipient of six honorary doctorate degrees.

A philosophical and business masterpiece

Most business people have no conscious philosophy or else a mish-mash of half digested concepts and contradictions. John Allison is in a class by himself. He presents a reason-based, integrated philosophy which includes a pro-life code of ethics and principles of effective thinking. He demonstrates how his philosophy helped him build one of the most successful banking companies in history while avoiding the scandals and disasters that plagued other banks whose philosophies were quite different (and wrong). He also presents many insights into how to be an effective leader and explains the logic behind many of BB&T's successful business strategies. Two of his core leadership ideas are acting on principle and cognitive integration but there is much more. Allison goes on to show how the future of America itself depends upon following the philosophical principles he advocates and defends.This book is a masterpiece--not to be missed.

More than just a success story....

The Leadership Crisis and the Free Market

What does a successful CEO look like when you dig into his story? We might expect to see in a Napoleon Hill type of account, detailing the elements behind a successful businessman, except here we see it with a uniquely Objectivist overlay.

Around the core of Allison’s personal business exploits, we discover how the principles of business success correlate with the principles of personal success as well as the principles of political success.

Just like “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” is a vision for government, in Allison’s world it is a vision for business and personal success, as well.

Sad it is that so few government bureaucrats will ever see this book. But even if they had a copy in their homes, they wouldn’t read it. These are among the vast hoards among us who fail to fully employ reason in determining a course of action.

A few times during these 200 pages Allison pointed out the connection between “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” as a political vision to it role in supporting a business vision — and its role in allowing human prospering.

Allison preaches to us: “People cannot act consistently with inconsistent goals or values.” And then he shows us enough examples of inconsistency run amok that we can grasp the wisdom of his perspective.

Some of it we’ve heard before in self-help books; we’ve even heard it in years gone by from Peter Drucker. But this may be the first time we’re hearing it with the altruism stripped away, without that veneer of mainstream “wisdom.”

So, Allison is all about encouraging a consistency in the application of virtuous behaviors among businessmen, among government representatives, among all of us.

And how unusual is it for someone to point out that dishonesty is a requirement for inconsistency; that honesty boils down to being disconnected from reality at some level. We don’t usually see honesty discussed in those terms.

It is that fundamental dishonesty, Allison would claim, that allows us to entertain the notion of “the common good.” But there is no such thing as “the common good.” That can never be said loud enough, nor said enough times! And yet, rarely does a day go by when I don’t hear somebody agitating that some issue or other has to be solved by forcing some people to act for “the common good,” — as if nobody’s liberty were going to be trampled in the process.

The whole scam of “the common good” (aka “the public interest”) would fall apart if honesty, integrity and justice were required instead of coercion to extract a forced favor from some citizens.

We’ve all noticed how our political adversaries maintain a barrier against actually hearing what we have to say, beyond the noise that our words make. I could just feel the walls shaking as, time after time, Allison drew parallels between a great business practice on the one hand and a certain political view, on the other. A couple of times the parallels were so obvious that only an outright “La La La La, I can’t HEAR you!” could result in an unchanged mind. Sadly, our culture is full of “La La La La, I can’t HEAR you.”

Allison is in the camp which feels that we are in a war for the future of Western civilization. I agree with him. We prosper, or not, according to the ideas that our culture embraces. As dishonesty flourishes, as our leaders continue embracing inconsistencies, as “the common good” becomes the goal of government actions, the protection of “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” will be reduced to a faint memory.

Leadership Wisdom from One of The Greats of Our Time!

Would the principles that make one an effective, successful and happy individual create those same results for a company, and for society as a whole? In this terrific book on leadership by John Allison, he says that yes, indeed they would.

It's safe to say Mr. Allison what he's talking about. The prestigious Harvard Business Review named him one of the decades top 100 most successful CEOs.

More importantly, for 20 years he served as Chairman and CEO of BB&T, one of the largest financial institutions in America, growing the bank from $4.5 billion to $152 billion in assets during his tenure. And, they were hugely successful during a time when many banks failed spectacularly.

He did this *not* through subprime lending or any type of cronysim. How, then? Through rational, long-term thinking combined with a desire to provide exceptional value to customers, employees and shareholders alike.

And...by acting from a base of uncompromising values.

Interestingly, when the bubble burst and many banks were going under, he and his bank were left standing tall; not only in reputation...but in profitability, as well.

The author is now CEO of the highly-regarded libertarian think tank, Cato Institute. He approaches life and leadership from a very practical, logical, and rational viewpoint. He also approaches his relationships with employees and customers with an extremely benevolent, win/win mindset (as he referred to it, "getting better together") always at the forefront.

Like most truly-successful people, he understands that happiness is the ultimate goal; that financial success is just one aspect of overall success and happiness. And, that all leadership begins with self-leadership; mastering ourselves and our character traits.

Part One, "Values in the Pursuit of Happiness" includes a chapter on each value that he deems vital and necessary to one's obtaining happiness. They were also the principles he used to lead at the bank.

They include being Reality Grounded, Reason (Objectivity), Independent Thinking, Productivity (Profitability), Honesty, Integrity, Justice, Pride, Self-Esteem (Self-Motivation) and Teamwork (Mutual Supportiveness).

According to the author, "Not only are these values not contradictory but they are integrated. Failure to execute on one value will make it impossible for you to execute on another value."

Part Two, "Leading for Personal, Organization, and Societal Greatness" is really a Masters Degree in business leadership. That it's told from the personal experiences of a man who has been there, done that very successfully, and is willing to share exactly how, is truly a gift. Absolutely fascinating and enlightening.

While again, logic and reason are very important to the author, his writing is warm and thoughtful, and he certainly understands the dynamics of emotion and human nature; that most people make decisions based on their emotions being in control. Yet, as he says, "Emotions are not a valid means of knowledge."

So, how does he suggest we don't make counterproductive decisions based on this fact?

"The goal should be to train your emotions so they automatically support the conclusions that your rational mind determined."
Powerful!

One of my favorite points had to do with the importance of understanding the relationship of value and money, and that a business only makes money to the degree they focus on bringing value to their customers. I loved this gem:

"In the 1960′s, the CEO of General Motors announced that the mission of GM was to `make money.' Shortly thereafter GM's earnings started to decline. GM was created to make cars in a variety of price ranges and quality categories. Its real purpose is to make `good' cars, and when it does this very well, it gets to make money. At BB&T our real purpose is to help our clients be financially successful and economically secure, and when we do this well, we can make money for our shareholders."

He also warns about what he calls the "ultimate psychological sin of evasion." This occurs when we choose not to explore what we know we should explore because we are afraid the information will not concur with our already-established views. Evasion has a dramatically negative impact on one's happiness, as well as the success of a business or a society.

The author is very firm regarding the importance of staying focused on truth. He says, "When we evade, we are detached from reality and cannot learn or grow." True both for individuals and for businesses. And, for society? He asks, "Do our political leaders make decisions based on reality?"

The pages of my copy of the book are filled with notes and underlines as well as starred and bracketed sentences and paragraphs. I simply cannot do this book justice in a review.

Let me suggest -- if I may -- that you purchase this book, read it, study it, and then buy it as a gift for all the leaders and potential leaders in your life.

There are a lot of excellent leadership books on the market and I've benefited from reading many of them.

This one might just be the most important one yet!
