I love the other alter ego of this author

I want to first say, I love the other alter ego of this author, so when I heard/saw that her YA books were up for review I jumped. Not a YA reader, I wasn’t sure what to expect except for brilliant writing and creative thinking. Which I got in spades.

We start with Jessie’s story, him and his father are the carnival, although Jessie wishes for a normal life, he knows until his dad retires, the carnival is it.

Coming into another nameless town he finds Tate and Rand, one is the object of his desire the other is the BFF.

Then out of the blue, Jessie dad hires Donny, who is vague about himself, his past and his place in life.

All four boys are about the same age and find a weird friendship as the muddle through the two weeks of the carnival being in town.

It’s amazing to me how not only did we get an in-depth tale of a canrie life, but through the eyes of several different age brackets.

The four boys/to young adults. The father and boss, the workers and the general public. And it was all blended together so perfectly with just enough detail that we feel bogged down by any of it, but instead was mesmerized just as Tate was when the lights went on for the first time.

Trials and tribulations of first love

Coming of age tale revolving around four teenage boys who are each coming to terms with their sexuality. Jesse Macon arrives in Decatur, Alabama with his father to set up a carnival. He has his sights on Tate, the mayor's son, the moment he arrives. Tate and his best friend Rand are both gay, but don't discuss it and have not come out. Lastly, there is Donny, the kid who is taken in by Jesse's dad and given a job working the carnival. These four boys try to figure out who they are and what they want. They will make mistakes, but it's just a part of growing up.

I loved how the book followed each of the boys throughout their journey. We get a chance to see into the minds and hearts of these young men through the journeys of first loves. Gay or straight, we have all dealt with these feelings and the story was beautifully told. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series when the carnival moves on to the next town.

Short and Sweet

It's very short but a nice read if you're into two big bears mating like wild animals (LOL). Some mechanical errors distracted me (like missing or misplaced commas) but I liked the loving tone of the story. It's supposed to be historical but that didn't play as much of a part as I'd expected. If there's a sequel I would buy it.

A memoir capturing his life up to age 20

Author Bill Wenham depicts his book entitled Nine Lives because he believes life in the various stages is divided into nine phases. After being a small child each decade symbolizes what he would refer to as a mountain experience. In his rather lengthy introduction he will speak more at length of how the "mountain "experience is perceived at each stage. Bill was born in Harrow England in 1932. In this memoir he reflects on his earliest recollections which include attending kindergarten in a one room schoolhouse and being able to read well at age 3.

His mother was able to beat the odds in recovering from a brain tumor in surgery. "She was the first person ever, male or female, to survive and fully recover from that particular type of brain surgery. " In the midst of World War II that started, three bombs would be dropped in the street where he lived. His father would just miss the pub bombing that killed many friends a few minutes after he left.

Today, what is referred to as the London Heathrow airport, used to be an open field in his junior school where they would fly model aircraft. Catch the funny story of how in school Bill recalls when he would dip Nora's hair in the inkwell because she was snooty due to her dad being the teacher. "… Got six of the best across each hand with the teachers cane, laid on extra heavily, because it was his own daughter that this had happened to. "

At the beginning of the war everyone, he shares, in Britain was issued a gas mask. Teachers and students would retreat to the shelter when air raid sirens would alarm. Though One would think it was a tense time, Bill reflects a happy-go-lucky individual that made the best out of opportunities at hand. Throughout this book the reader will understand how Bill was able to craft toys, bicycles, and even a record player out of junk scraps. Simple games would be made using cigarette cards, bottle tops, marbles, and skipping rope.

The reader can gain a sense of the fact that Bill enjoyed his impulsivity as a child by skipping off to the railway station at age 9, and sneaking on to the train that would take him 40 miles away before he returned home later in the day without his mother having a clue. There are a lot of events that will be shared including Bill's ingenious ideas he would develop at the age of 17 while working for Sid and his sewing machine company. Much of the book will talk about the happenings after he joined the British merchant navy. He would discover rather quickly that while he thought he knew everything at age 17, he knew practically nothing about everything. Some funny stories, some serious stories, and some sad stories, will follow and all of this in Bill's unique way of writing in tangents which seem to reflect his mind going in a million directions.

He will share about his brothers untimely death at age 25 which happened the day after Bill turned 18. At the end of the book learn how he would meet his wife. Though today Bill stands 83 years young, it is his earliest years that he brings to the reader in this particular volume. I enjoyed his courage and memory in recalling those early experiences while gaining the feeling I was talking to grandpa "Bill" on the front porch glider with iced tea. Will you please stop already?!!

Do you think I'm made of money Marcy Jacks? One great series right after another. With storylines as compelling as each are different. Since I started reading your books my Amazon card has taken a serious hit. My Archived Items has ticked up exponentially. My Carousel is stuffed with Unread Jacks books, my other favorite authors are getting crowded out and they aren't happy :o( . I like to take breaks in between an author's series, which is the only reason all my reviews aren't just Marcy Jacks books. If you love pregnant male books like me then Marcy is your girl. She is also very good at displaying the courage and fortitude of disabled characters. Which brings us back to the first book in the Of Dragons and Wolves series.
Conner the alpha's youngest son has about five strikes against him. He's really small, with a bad heart, a limp, inability to either hunt for or defend himself, and he's an omega. If he weren't loved by his alpha dad and very strong older brothers he surely would have been banished or culled from the pack. As it stands he is considered the pack runt and useless to many including council members. None of this helps Conner's self esteem or pride. Neither does being the alpha's "baby" boy. He wants to do something to show everyone, especially his family that he can also contribute to the well being of the pack. This led to him sacrificing himself by offering himself as the "alpha's son" required by the dragon leader in exchange for peace between their pack and the dragons clan. Unfortunately neither his family nor the high dragon appreciated / were happy with his sacrifice.
This story was exciting. Just when you thought you knew what was going to happen Ms Jacks throws a curveball. It is an entertaining story as well. From the high dragon's initial reaction to his new mate to flying on your mate's back. There is also drama, intrigue, and jealousy. Who is shooting at the dragons? Who is the other blond in the dragon leader's life? How do the other dragons feel about their clan leader's defective mate? What is the difference between dragon and wolf mating rituals? Why were the dragons and wolves fighting? How long had they been sworn enemies?
What's especially great about this book is that we are introduced to Conner's five older brothers as well as several clan members who served as Conner's bodyguards and the high dragon's soldiers. We can anticipate some very good stories...like the second book in the series which is waiting on my Kindle Fire's Carousel. Happy Reading!

Marcy Jacks has done it again. She has written a series that cannot be put down. Once you start this story you have to finish it. I swear, it was all I could think about. I just had to get back to it. Can't wait to start book two.

Since they become good friends, Tom's father invites him to come and move closer to the ranch house, and when Thomas sees how in love the two young men are, he decides to bring them even closer and asks Daniel to move into the mansion with them. He treats him as his son and affords him all of the luxuries that he gives to his son, Tom. Tom Langley realizes his intense attraction towards Daniel when he finishes school and comes home. By then Daniel is his horse’s trainer and as Tom tries to get closer to the horse, he and Daniel become even closer, at some point even almost making out in a stream. Tom decides that he cannot keep his feelings a secret and tells Daniel exactly how he feels while they are out camping on the prairie, only to discover that Daniel also has the same feelings. At around the same time, Tom's parents are involved in an accident and pass away. Will Tom continue having the same feelings for Daniel, or will he blame their gay relationship for his parent’s death?

As far as I know a stallion is male and should be referred to ad HE NOT SHE as this writer does. Also only virgin girls have a hymen not young gay men. This writer needs a proofreader BADLY !!!

Sweet romance, but awkwardly written

The two main characters are interesting and sweet, but it's obvious the writer put them in a setting he/she knows nothing about. The author uses the word "stallion" to refer to a female horse, multiple times. The boys go fishing in a stream for "tuna" which sounds bizarre since tuna live in the ocean. The two young men just turned 18, but they are able to order beer with their meal at a nice restaurant. The language and phrasing almost sounds British, but the setting is supposed to be near New Orleans, USA. If these types of issues don't bother you, then you might enjoy reading this fairly angst-free, light romance.

School is finally over and Tom is ready to start learning the daily operations of the ranch and getting closer to his family and the horses. He's always been friends with his father's hired hand, Daniel, but now he can add intense attraction to the mix. He doesn't know how Daniel would take it if he professed his feelings so he lives in agony hoping things will progress in the future. Daniel has always been gay, but he thinks Tom as a girlfriend hidden out there somewhere. He can't tell Tom how he feels and ruin their friendship. When Tom's parents are in a car accident, can they be there for each other without feeling guilty for their feelings?

Normally I don't read a MM romance book, but Forbidden Passion sounded interesting so I thought I'd give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised with the story and I thought that Ms. Sloan did a great job making the character's feelings known and moving their story along with not only friendship, but tender loving care. It did seem like they dove into sex a bit quickly, but I guess that's what most readers enjoy. The sex is erotic and explicit, but along with that you can feel the love. From the previews I've seen of the continuing series, it looks like it's only going to get even better…meaning hotter, spicier, and even sexier! This is my first read from Ms. Sloan, but it won't be my last! I'm already looking forward to the rest of The Black & White Gay Shifter Series! 4 Stars

Surfs up!

I liked the concept of the story. Ashely falls in love with surfing but is more or less snubbed by the in crowd. She teaches herself mostly by watching and listening to others. Her whole life is surfing and work. Willow has been watching Ashley surf the waves, and as she is coming out of the water to head home to get ready for work, introduces herself. Now you are going to have to read the story to learn what happens next.

It is a short story but an enjoyable read. I think this is one of her longer storys.

I didn't even finish this.

I know, you should give a book a chance, but I have tried about eight different times to pick this up. After the first couple of chapters I just can't get any further into it. The grammar, the settings, the believability, the awkwardness, the over-idealistic scenarios... It was too much. It felt like a first draft of a first attempt at writing and I was simply unable to take any enjoyment from it. Now it's "collecting dust" in my kindle archive.

FAST MOVING SHORT LITTLE BOOK

It was an easy read and the charaters were ok but...it was too pat for me, too easy. Wanted more. Three and and a half really. Think Meinel can write, would read her again. Nice inexpensive little time filler.
