I want to say thanks for answering most of the questions I had from the previous book. I was still somewhat all over the place when reading it, but I think I am getting used to the authors writing style (gasp). I hope the third installment comes soon... I can't believe the ending! I will be honest and say that my feelings were hurt for the main MC after that ending... I think he deserved better even if he is a total brat... With a heart of gold... But a brat nonetheless.

Less Quin, More Alistair, Same Hilarious Matheus

I'm having a difficult time figuring out where to start this review, so I'm going to start by talking about the main difference between this book and the first one---there was a lot less Quin and a lot more Alistair. I always find it an odd choice to temporarily remove the love interest in the second book in a series, especially since I absolutely adored the relationship between Quin and Matheus in the first book and wanted to see how it would progress.

"'It’s full of dead people.' Matheus flapped a hand at the cemetery.
'You’re a dead people,' said Quin."

See? Quin was funny. But somehow removing him from the majority of the story still managed to work.

Matheus was his quippy, sarcastic, klutzy self, which made this book pretty much just as hilarious as the first. Just being in his head period was great. Also, two words: spirit animal. Sometimes I swear Matheus is me. Here are just some of the many ways in which we are the same:

- He hates nature.
- He hates the crunching sound of bugs when you kill them so much that he has to leave the room.
- As much as he hates bugs, he still felt bad when Quin killed a moth in Book 1 because he doesn't mind moths as long as they stay far enough away from him.
- He covers his eyes when there are needles in movies.
- He hates being around people but still cares about people and wants to be helpful to them.
- I actually could continue, believe it or not, but I think you might get bored, and that's probably enough to prove my point.

But Alistair also turned out to be an entertaining character. He was definitely clingy and a bit of a damsel-in-distress (flaws that he doesn't even deny having), but his perversion and flirtiness was oh-so-fun, and his people skills were actually admirable and impressive. So the two of them together made a fun duo to read about, just in a different way than Matheus and Quin, and I really enjoyed watching their relationship grow and change. There also was still some romance, but, again, it was different (though I won't say any more for the sake of keeping this as spoiler-free as possible).

And of course I should probably mention the plot, which was also great and had me hooked, not wanting to put the book down.

So overall, despite the fact that I missed Quin, this was a great second in series that had me cracking up just as much as the first!

Unforgettably exciting and fun characters written into life via witty dialogues and great plot

I've read lots of romance, both M/F and M/M, but few character came close to be as memorable as Matheus, Quin and Alistair. I just can't get enough off the snarky dialogues between Matheus & Quin. Underneath all those sarcastic and witty remarks, the unspoken love between them was overwhelming. For example, "I don't even care if I have Stockholm syndrome" was how Matheus expressed his love to Quin. LOVE IT!

The writing is charming, smartly layered, i.e. full of the read-between-the-line stuff, but never seems condescending. The author doesn't just use "fancy" words just for the sake of being fancy. Both Quin and Matheus are cultural snobs and they speak as such. I learned so many new words and it's awesome!

I'm not sure which ending the other reviewers were referring to, perhaps the one from Book 1 or they didn't finish the book? Sure, it's only a Happy For Now ending, and there's ample room for sequels but it resolves the main conflicts created in Book 1 & 2, and the characters got what they deserve. I thought it couldn't be more perfect as it stayed true to the overall mantra's of the series: vampire's business is messy but one learns to make the best of the situation. I'd love to see Matheus and Quin again though so Ms. Fecteau, please don't leave them just yet!

The only thing I could criticize is how rapid and abrupt the zero-to-hero transformation of Matheus seemed, even taking into account the catastrophic events he underwent in 3-4 months. What he did at the end to finish the story would be what the zero-Matheus at the beginning, NOT who he'd become, would do so it basically undid any progress the character had made. I think the author was just running out of time (or steam) so she rushed to finish this book. Honestly, I think it could have been easily stretched into 2 books and would still be as intense.

His father is outraged and won’t listen to reason. He beats him up and throws him out. Jesse has a little money but not enough to live on. He decides that if he’s going to be homeless, he wants to do it someplace warm, so he gets on a bus and heads to California. On the bus he meets Kevin a twenty-five year old who feels sorry for him and befriends him. When Jesse gets to California, they part company. Jesse lives on the beach for a couple of days and then meets Manny. It turns out that they are attracted to each other but Manny has something to tell his new friend. Manny is a male prostitute. With no other prospects, Jesse goes with Manny and soon is turning tricks himself. His friendship with Manny grows to more than friendship and things seem like they’re finally going his way. But the good times don’t last for long.

This book was phenominal! This was my first Stormy Glenn read and it certainly left a lasting impression! I have already made arrangements to buy the rest of this series.
This book was steamy, sweet, and drama filled, with an ending that let's you know there is another book in the works.
I enjoyed the seamless flow of the book. It was so easy to follow. The storyline wasn't muddled, it was erotic, romantic, and has some action scenes thrown in for more reading pleasure. So if you enjoy sexy, romantic men in uniform looking for their HEA. Then you will love this book.
I literally had to take a break for 3 to 5 minutes after some of the erotic stuff to catch my breath! The writing is just that good, I honestly felt like I was sitting right in front of these people while they got it on! Not many authors can make me feel like that. It makes me want to read anything that she writes, and I believe I will!

I read this when it first came out and I still go back to read it often. Very high quality character development and plotting. I am glad it's been republished so more people can read this story of a gentle man who is threatened by danger but finds romance with the partner of his police detective brother.

About the Author
Until 2007 horses had drifted in and out of my life but did not make the kind of impression required to draw me from my chosen livelihood, that of an English teacher, then a translator and now slowly moving into writing. Then in 2007 I discovered a different way of being with horses largely due to the influence of the internationally renowned German trainer, Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling. This is when my life began to change and together with my partner (and later my wife) of almost thirty years, I moved to Europe with an old dog and a horse to start a year of full-time training with him. The experience has been life-changing. Now I live with my wife in the south of the Netherlands and life continues to change as I proceed down the path which I set out on in 2007. During that time I have had the opportunity to meet and talk to horse people from all walks of life, from ordinary horse owners such as myself through to the likes of well-known teachers, such as Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling and the Nevzorov Haute Ecole international representative, Michael Bevilacqua, and the new generation of trainers, such as Noora Ehnqvist and Jason Alexander Wauters (one of the most proficient trainers to emerge from Hempfling's school). The journey continues....

Excellent theme & pursuit (for those who have the $$$)

Excellent theme & pursuit (for those who have the $$$), but he continuely beats up Hempfling for his "injustices" to them. As "common" people, would have been much more effective if author had stuck with all the other experiences along "The Path". It is very thought provoking -- because after all these years of wanting a horse, I had very much fallen into the same traps, no questions asked! And yes, I had just happened to read Hempfling before Smail! Fortunately, don't have $100,000+ to spend on searching for a "Master". Have gone thru All that "search" (w/o the $100K) for spiritual "enlightment", and get to the same point -- when you're ready, the "teacher" (human or equine) appears!

Not what I expected

This was an interesting collection of essays.
What I liked:
the author is a gifted writer and has some beautiful, powerful prose and poetry;
The author is a genuine seeker of a better way with horses
What I didn't like:
The description I read led me to believe this book was a memoir of first hand experience with Hempfling, when in reality it was more of a travel blog with horses;
The constant criticism and reiterations of a dispute with Hempfling, and dark aspersions cast upon the man such as hinting at horses being destroyed when the author didn't know what was the case;
The judgmental and dismissive conclusions of some 'schools' of horsemanship from a very naive perspective- I can see that some very commonplace Internet misperceptions are what are being criticised rather than the actual practices. This happens a lot in today's online world, where it is possible to absorb a lot of informational knowledge that is almost entirely secondhand apart from the merest dabbling at the skin of it and therefore quite removed from the truth, but is taken as gospel- example in mind: describing the Parelli system as entirely dominance based- a straw man in a cowboy hat and a view that has completely missed the point of what I know is actually taught.

I think this writer comes across as a passionate searcher who does not take responsibility for his own studentship or acknowledge that his own filters colour the world he describes.

Otherwise entertaining, sometimes moving. Some interesting stories to be taken with a grain of salt.

One family's journey across the world in search of the truth about horses

If you have even one moment of doubt about the acceptability of current human attitudes towards our interaction with horses then this book is required reading. Although assembled from a collection of blogs posted over a short period of time the writer has skillfully combined them to produce a fluent and fascinating story taking the reader on a journey of extreme joy, huge heartbreak and devastating disappointment. Andrew-Glyn Smail refreshingly presents the facts about horse/human relationships as they are without trying to avoid offence or beg for sympathy and he investigates the cracks in our equine world that most of us either choose to ignore or, sadly, endorse. He identifies methods that have been blindly followed for centuries as being seriously flawed and sets about finding enlightened trainers to correct what amounts to pure cruelty. He investigates then offers the facts about serious alternatives to our traditional, accepted horse training and handling methods and summarizes pros and cons of these methods and trainers and thus arms the reader with incentive, enthusiasm and, most importantly, hope. This book will change lives.

About the Author
A shrill blast echoed across town. The volunteer fire department was being summoned and my mother was writing for the local paper. She and I were eating lunch and she gathered her purse and we headed to the car. From that moment in my kindergarten days, I was fascinated by covering events and people.

During the ensuing decades, I've had the privilege of being in press conferences with politicians like Tip O'Neil during my start in radio news and I've covered the world through the international community in Los Angeles.

People who live and work around us have stories deserving of an audience and that's what drives me to write today in an effort to bring those stories to life. This short,easy to read book is full of useful insights on the essentials of starting and maintaining a successful business. The most encouraging aspect is that when a business makes providing lasting value to its surrounding community a key goal, not only does this help make financial success an easier goal to reach,it also can make a deep rooted impact on that community!
The author is really good at letting the Entrepreneur speak and drawing out the motivations that help drive his success.

Just the basics...

This is a good book in and of itself, but I wish he had gone into a little more detail. There are quite a few good ideas, but like I said, a little more detail on "how" would have been nice. It is a good start.

Not worth the read

I am always amazed that I will fall for these "how to earn" books. After reading this rendition of the same ole info, I yawned, thought "I've been suckered again" and "this guy just made a few more bucks without writing one really original idea"...sigh.

Lots of practical information.
