Good overview of the history of Germans from Russia

I have collected German from Russia articles and books and stories for over forty years. If I were starting on that path today, I would simply pick up “The German-Russians in Words and Pictures”. Dr Bill Bosch has done everyone a great favor by condensing information from dozens of excellent sources on the topic of the Germans from Russia and creating one well written, well organized, detailed, and reader-friendly 146 page volume. Dr.Bosch's book is neatly broken into three sections with information about the migration to Russia, a history of their early and later years as well as information about the work and life of the first group, the Volga River Migrations and the second group, The Black Sea Migrations. Part three chronicles the migration to and settlement in America. A fine selection of photographs and useful captions also complement the book. I always appreciate an index, especially when I’m doing research. The index to this book contains 14 pages of detail. Very Useful! I highly recommend this volume to readers whether you are new to the topic or thought you knew all there was to know about the Germans from Russia.

Really enjoyed reading this well researched study of an amazing group of people whose history has rarely been examined. Obviously, these hearty ancestors had neither time nor wherewithal for writing journals and publishing the history of their struggles. So grateful that Dr. Bosch put forth the effort to record these events and statistics for posterity. These people were truly admirable, and embody the concept of survival against all odds.
