Good Roman Adventure Britain and Gaul 179 AD

Devastated by as personal loss in the previous book in this series, Maximus has retired to a small farm in Britain. His friend Atticus seeks him out at the request of Emperor Aurelius for a special mission. Balomar, king of the Marcomanni, is stirring up the Germanic tribes to wage war against the Romans. The emperor thinks that Maximus is the only person who can find and kill Balomar. Maximus is reluctant to leave his reclusive life but does so when he learns that he has a son that he did not know of.
As with the other books in this series, because of the length, the story moves right along. It is good adventure with good characters and good dialogue. We also get a look at the type of truly good person that Emperor Aurelius was and a look at the type of bad person that his son, Commodus, is and will be as the future Emperor of Rome. This is the last book in the series but I suspect there has been some room left if the author decides to continue the series. If so, I would look forward to that.
