Basic yet entertaining...
By Em
Before starting this review I would like to say that I knew full well what kind of story I'd be reading. It's full on m/m romance, fantasy, m-preg. The m-preg is what made me want to read the novel to be honest. So if that's not your thing opt out now. The next thing is that I knew from the preview what I was in store for writing wise. POV change in this thing is messy and confusing. In the end it reads like a role play albeit an interesting one. So. Now that we got that out of the way, understand that this review is for the story, characters and over all feel.

The two main characters of the novel are Raven and Harias. After Harias' kingdom falls Raven rapes the virgin Harias in order to get him to reveal enemy plans. However, we soon realize that Raven is actually in love with Harias and Raven forces him to be his husband. This starts a chain of events which wove in the other char. Jadd, Tarn, Emil and the other guy. Emil's Domino.

I'm not sure who decides who will be Rami (like a wife and mother) and who will be Domino (like a husband and father) that's never quite addressed. I assume that everyone has the ability to bear children since they're all the same race, but all the Rami were virgins where all the Domino's were not. I also didn't see or hear of any women in the novel. That leads me to believe that there is a system in order but wtf knows. In fact not a lot about the actual society was discussed. The story focused mainly on the couples which was fine. The book was already confusing enough without adding a bunch of poorly explained setting/cultural info.

So we get these three couples that held this novel semi together. Wanting to know what happened to them is the only thing that kept me reading and I read this thing in one night. 125 pages is a light read. Here's the thing. In the first half of the novel Harias has a pretty clear hatred for Raven. Then all of a sudden he's upset because "he's always loved him." Ok sure dude. Harias goes through some PTS after being raped, to which he comes out of hating his beheaded (by Raven) cousin some how. It's all very strange and it made Harias' character really fickle and annoying. By the end I was like "Whatever bro. Don't care."

Jadd, Ravens brother, and his Rami Tarn were super engaging though. Honestly their story drew me in the most and that's probably why I kept reading. That and the m-preg I knew was eventually coming. There was also a very questionable and weird story about Tarn's brother and one of Ravens allies, which I found confusing and annoying.

You had all the main yaoi tropes in this thing: seme rape, Instalove, and a sub par nod to BDSM. I guess that was the point of the collar, and bed chains. Again wtf knows.

The one thing that could have saved the novel was good sex, but the scenes are inconsistent. Some are okay, others are terrible. I would have liked a baby before the end, but I guess you shouldn't bring a kid into effed up relationships lol. So you might be asking. Why three stars? Well because I couldn't stop reading. The Knot is one of those train wrecks you can't look away from, and I found the book entertaining in the simplest most crude way possible. Basic plot, characters, and themes had me hooked, which I'm sure had a lot to do with the fantasy aspect of it all. I wanted to see what happened at the end and that's worth something to me.

Overall this is not a 3 star read. It's more like a 2, MAYBE 2.5. But so help me I enjoyed it. I'd even read another volume of this thing. If vol. 2 or 8 or whatever number (not sure cuz this says 7) comes out, strap me in for another full on collision.
