Adam Hemlock rules the elite New Harbor Academy. With his mother in Paris, he throws hedonistic, alcohol- and drug-fueled parties for his equally rich, desperately bored classmates. How’s a guy who lives life to the extreme to stay entertained? Take on a challenge, of course, and hope the exhilaration of the play-by-play fallout chases away the indifference. At the big pre-senior-year bash, Adam’s offered a dare―seduce the new kid. Adam initially laughs off the idea but changes his mind when he sees Jared.
Jared Rawell has spent the past two years at a Texas military school, where his father sent him to “pray away the gay.” He sees the academy in more liberal Washington as a chance to start over and achieve the grades he needs to get into an Ivy League school. When a beautiful but terrifying girl offers Jared a deal―don’t sleep with Adam Hemlock and she’ll help Jared get through senior year―he sees no reason to say no. But nothing is as simple as it seems.
With layers of hidden agendas, backstabbing, lying, cheating, drugs, and entitled teenage egos, Jared and Adam must navigate a high school minefield while waiting for the inevitable explosion.

Do not recommend the book

Les Faits Accomplis by Anna Martin
A prep school in the Seattle suburbs, New Harbor Academy is the setting for the book. As the senior year begins, a few of the rich and privileged seniors plot. Clare Metago is a conniving crazy spoiled young woman who rules the social scene of the school. She bets Adam Hemlock, a gorgeous gay spoiled brat that he will not be able to get Jared Rawell in the sack. Mia Haggerty and Ryder Gorden - Clare's best girlfriends - are part of the scheme, but it's Christopher (Chris or Biggie) Anthony Wallace, a rich African American who drives a pink cadillac which once was owned by Elvis who provides the price. If Adam can get Jared. Chris will give him his cadillac.
Jared came from a military school in Texas where his homophobic father had sent him to erase the gay off. he's a virgin - which is why Clare makes the bet. Jared is living with his maternal aunt, Hadley Saunders, who's an artist and the ex wife of Mark Saunders, New Harbor Academy's current principal. He's told to avoid the handsome Adam, but Adam is relentless in his pursuit. Eventually Jared learns that Adam is only pursuing him for the bet - and out of spite, has sex with him, telling him to enjoy the cadillac.
Unbeknown to Jared, Adam has fallen in love with Jared and in a huge turnaround of events, Chris gives the cadillac to Jared instead of Adam. Chris encourages Jared to fight Clare and not to let her win. Chris tells Jared that Adam has not claim his price and if Jared holds his head high, he'll come up ahead.
Adam approaches Jared and wins him back, revealing that he's deeply in love with Jared. They date and go to the prom together and they end up in Brown (Jared) and Harvard (Adam) so they can pursue their love....
Ms. Martin tries - and fails - to use the third person point of view so the book is narrated from an universal point of view by default. The characters are very superficial and not believable, the plot is mostly gossip and lacks any significant conflict. The writing style is full of clichés and boring.
I don't recommend the book.

2015 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention

I really enjoyed this story. While some of the characters weren't very likeable, they all grew over the course of the story. I enjoyed reading about the growing friendship and romance between the two main characters, but the rest of the cast were very three dimensional too. Easy to read writing style, and very descriptive.

By It's About The Book
Quickest way to paint the picture of this private prep school the MCs attend is Cruel Intentions minus any need to pretend they’re little angels. Which I love! The school is ruled by a group of 5 high school kids. The eighteen year old students have way too much freedom. They’re rich and basically living in mansions without any parental supervision. Having parties and hooking up. Sounds like a blast but one of the five is a super manipulative walking bored rich bitch cliché name Clare. She’s pretty awful. The first part of the book has Adam thinking he’s somehow been adopted by the in crowd when he’s forced to move to a new town his Senior year by his homophobic dad. He plays it cool at first but quickly he learns it’s better to be with them than against them.
Adam is one of the them. He’s gorgeous, witty and arrogant. All things Jared likes in a guy but he was warned off early by Clare. She tells Jared that Adam just wants to screw him and move on to the next conquest. When Adam turns the full force of his charm on Jared he knows he should but he pretty much eats it up. Friends turns into to kisses and sleepovers. No sex takes place. Jared realizes he’s falling for Adam right about the time he over hears Clare talking about a bet she made with Adam. This crushes Jared. Somehow he has to go on because seeing him crumble is exactly what Clare’s intentions were when she started the little game. Except Clare had no idea that the cool and carefree Adam would fall for the new guy. Making it a love story after all.
I’ll admit in the beginning of this book I was a little iffy about it. The characters grow on you. It’s kind of like a wicked indulgence until the boys start connecting. You watch Jared try to navigate himself through the ridiculous hierarchy these kids have created. Then the attraction builds. You think they have feelings for each other but you only know Jared is falling because the book is from his POV. But you get little hints that Adam isn’t just playing with Jared. I love the little details that make you hope that look meant something!
I know some people will not like that these are high school kids that have sex but honestly these are some worldly eighteen year old teenagers. If it weren’t for the cool kids rule the school aspect, they could have easily been college students. Oh and they’re rich so money is not an issue and they throw it around like crazy. I actually enjoyed the intimacy created between Adam and Jared. It really was lovely and it freed Adam to be who he wanted to be. Not because he’s gay, but because he’d played his role in that messed up clique for so long. He’d become it and not the real him.
One of my favorite secondary characters of the book was Biggie. He could have been totally ridiculous. And he kind of was BUT he was charming and there for his friends when they needed him. I can see how he’d be a fun guy to be around. Though I never warmed up to Clare the group did have a dynamic that worked for them. I guess.
I was happily surprised by how much I liked this book. I’m generally not a fan of teenage books. This one wasn’t really angst for the sake of angst filled so that may have helped. I liked the slow build and wondering what comes next in regards to the relationship and the social battle within the group. First half is kind of Heathers meets 90210 but the love story gets so beautiful once the guys connect. The ending got a little too sweet for me personally but young love can do that I suppose. And sadly we never see the bitch go down. She did get a firm talking to and a black eye though. ;) Good book!
